About the Event
The art is the "credo" of poet Rodolfo, painter Marcello, musician Schaunard and philosopher Colline - the fine line between the reality of survival and the escape into the self-created world of bohemia, in which art is not exercised, but merely lived. But with the appearance of a young, terminally ill woman, reality becomes an indomitable power ... Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924) succeeded in "La Bohème" in a unique way the transformation of emotions into deeply moving sounds and melodies and at the same time a very precise inventory of a fictional subculture. If the focus of the first two pictures is on the exuberant amusement and the tender poetry of falling in love, then the catastrophe finally breaks through with even greater force and shows that the ubiquity of death lurks behind life. Philipp Westerbarkei has shown with his first directorial work at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and in 2018 with Mozart's "Magic Flute" at the Coburg Theater that he is one of the most interesting directors of the young generation.
